The Vallisaari Biennial 2027 brings contemporary art back to the island

The Helsinki Biennale 2027 will take place from 6 June to 19 September 2027 on Vallisaari, in Esplanadi Park and at the HAM Helsinki Art Museum. Vallisaari will once again serve as the biennial’s main venue, inviting visitors to experience contemporary art in a unique maritime setting.

The theme of the 2027 Biennale is ‘The Unknown’. The theme leads us to art, imagination and open-ended questions: to that which we do not yet know or fully understand. The Biennale explores the unknown with curiosity and seeks new ways of thinking about the world, nature and the future.

The Helsinki Biennale 2027 will bring together around 45 artists and artist groups from Finland and around the world. The first artists to be announced are Ari Bayuaji, Tara Donovan, Laurent Grasso, Marguerite Humeau, Matias Karsikas, Britta Marakatt-Labba, Ragnhild May, Yoshitomo Nara, Josefina Nelimarkka, Tawatchai Puntusawasdi, Anna Retulainen and Jakob Kudsk Steensen.

Some of the works will be produced specifically for the Helsinki Biennial, and they will forge new kinds of encounters between art, nature and the historic setting of Vallisaari. Further details about the artists, works and events will be published in early 2027.

Come and experience the Vallisaari Biennale in the summer of 2027.
